| Google Chrome - Posted by Johnathan |

Yesterday Google announced that they would be launching a new open source browser, "Google Chrome". It's based on a tabbed interface, but keeping each tab in an isolated "sandbox", they're able to prevent one tab from crashing another and provide improved protection from rogue sites.
They said a beta would be released today but can't find it anywhere, will keep looking though. Found this, http://gears.google.com/chrome/?hl=en but it redirects me to Google homepage. Will update this if I find out more. |

In a move that could add substantial volumes of Flash content to Internet search results, Adobe is working with Google and Yahoo to provide optimized Flash Player technology to enhance the searching of this content.
The project, being announced Tuesday, will enable searches on Flash content to return text and links, which can then be indexed, said Justin Everett-Church, Adobe senior product manager for the Flash Player. Content from a Flash application or even a game or advertisement will be available to search engines. Pages containing a Flash .SWF file will be returned in a search. SOURCE |

| Mac OSX Snow Leopard - Posted by Johnathan |
|
Announced at WWDC
A Quantum Leap. Since 2001, Mac OS X has delivered more than a thousand innovative new features. With Snow Leopard, the next major version of the world’s most advanced operating system, Mac OS X changes more than its spots, it changes focus. Taking a break from adding new features, Snow Leopard — scheduled to ship in about a year — builds on Leopard’s enormous innovations by delivering a new generation of core software technologies that will streamline Mac OS X, enhance its performance, and set new standards for quality. Snow Leopard dramatically reduces the footprint of Mac OS X, making it even more efficient for users, and giving them back valuable hard drive space for their music and photos. 64-bit To accommodate the enormous amounts of memory being added to advanced hardware, Snow Leopard extends the 64-bit technology in Mac OS X to support breakthrough amounts of RAM — up to a theoretical 16TB, or 500 times more than what is possible today. More RAM makes applications run faster, because more of their data can be kept in the very fast physical RAM instead of on the much slower hard disk. | Photoshop CS4 x64 - comming this way! - Posted by webmaster |
|
Adobe has announced that the next version of Photoshop (CS4) will support 64bit architecture. Apperently, the most speed boost will be given to users working with large images and has a lot of RAM memory (over 32 GB). For users with 4 GB RAM, the speed increase should according to Adobe be 8%-12%.
Another interesting thing with this... but first some history: The first version of Photoshop was released in 1988 and only for Mac users. The Windows users could not enjoy playing with Photoshop until 1992 when version 2.5 was released. Ever since then, the PC and the Mac version has been released at the same time. The interesting thing then: The 64bit-edition will only be available for Windows users, the Mac users will have to use the 32bit version of CS4. Adobe haven't announced any release date yet, but according to the release dates of the old versions, a good guess would be in the first half of 2009. |

| Microsoft makes £22.5bn bid for Yahoo search engine - Posted by Johnathan |
|
Microsoft has made a bid of £22.5bn for the search engine, Yahoo.
EXTRACT TAKEN FROM "COMPUTER WEEKLY" Microsoft said the planned acquisition would create a more competitive company that would be able to provide better choice and innovation for customers and partners. The software giant hopes the acquisition will help it compete with Google in the online advertising market and deliver video and high-value internet content. The proposed acquisition represents a sizeable chunk of Microsoft's $55bn (£30bn) annual turnover. It could ultimately result in the company shifting its focus from business infrastructure based on Windows to an online search engine and web communities financed by internet advertising. |

| HTML 5 - Posted by Johnathan |
|
This week W3C released the first public working draft of the HTML 5 specification, with hte final specification expected by 2010.
When the new specification is completed it will be the first major revision to the HTML specification sinc 1999. According to W3C, the HTML 5 effort now includes nearly 500 participants, including representatives from Apple, Google, IBM, Microsoft, Mozilla and Opera. "HTML is of course a very important standard," said Tim Berners-Lee, author of the first version of HTML and W3C Director in a statement. "I am glad to see that the community of developers, including browser vendors, is working together to create the best possible path for the Web. To integrate the input of so many people is hard work, as is the challenge of balancing stability with innovation, pragmatism with idealism." While the working draft will be important to the development of HTML 5, there are other things that still need to be done for HTML 5 to work. |
